Can someone with a business degree become an insurance underwriter?

There are several large insurance companies in my town. I have a bachelors degree in management with an HR focus. I took several general business courses and took an insurance course. I also have basic knowledge of insurance through my HR courses and my 3 months at my current HR job. I want to become an underwriter and was wondering if someone with a business degree could get into the field? A friend who works at a large insurance firm says yes it’s very possible. Any comments?
